Alleviating
poverty and improving the livelihoods of poor and marginalised workers in
developing countries by ensuring they are paid a fair and sustainable income.
Providing development
opportunities for disadvantaged segments of society, particularly women and
indigenous people
Encouraging
cultural diversity by merging traditional with contemporary design
Pricing our
products competitively to make them affordable
Transparency
of commercial relations
We achieve this
by
Buying only
from
Non-profit organisations
registered with the International Fair Trade Organisation IFAT
Whole sellers
that are registered which the British Association of Fair Trade shops BAFTS
Democratically
run cooperatives often located in remote villages, which we have visited and
vetted personally.
Individuals
whom we have met in person
This enables
us to buy from primary producers, often very poor crafts people many of whom
are women or minority groups.
Letting the
producers set the price, which is a multiple of the local
minimum wage
Eliminating
numerous middlemen and transferring the savings to producer and customer alike
Providing market
access as third world producers are usually isolated from their customers
Offering design consultancy
in order to increase the marketability of products in an ever-changing global
marketplace.
